Experience
KUHN & WHITTENBORN ADVERTISING
One of the top Advertising Agencies at the time, I was hired
as Production Artist for Kuhn & Wittenborn Advertising in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. I worked closely with
Art Directors and Copy Writers. Produced mock-ups for presentations, in-house meetings and final production print files. Received a vast amount of training in computer design from the early beginnings of computers being used back in 1987. I was employed with the agency for 5 years.
CAREER COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
I was the Art Director for Career Communication, Inc.
for 20 years from 1994 to 2014. We produced educational materials on career awareness, sold on state levels throughout the United States, Virgin Islands, Africa and a Russian version. My role as Art Director was to work closely with the Editor in Chief and create graphics and page layouts in magazine format. Other aspects of the position were to create and maintain the company website, promotional signage, flyers, newsletters and proposals. I was responsible for all aspects
of design from concept to final production and worked closely with printers and other vendors. Career Communication, Inc. unfortunately closed their doors in 2014, due to the passing
of the President of the company.
THE HOME DEPOT (#8460 Tiffany Springs)
After the closing of Career Communications, Inc. I freelanced for a few years then decided to take on a job to supplement
my freelance income. I landed a job with The Home Depot. After working there for a short time I realized what a great company they were and it turned into a full-time position.
While working in the retail store itself, they have continued to use my design skills. I produce a monthly newsletter for the store and have received several awards from the Managers, District Managers and the Regional Vice President. I have been designing the "ORANGE PEEL" for 8 years (over 86 issues so far), along with store signage, promotional material, anything they need for this particular store.
JEANNIE C. RILEY (Legendary Country Music Entertainer)
Country music entertainer, Grammy and CMA Award winner and Grammy Hall of Fame artist JEANNIE C. RILEY, best-known for her mega-hit "Harper Valley P.T.A." The very first song to reach number one on both the Country and Pop charts at the same time. I met Jeannie C. Riley when I was 14 years old. From the very beginning I wanted everyone to hear her and did any sort of promotion that I was able to do. Then in 1976 she released a song that she had written and I jumped at the chance to promote it by calling into radio stations, mailings, etc. The song climbed the charts and reached number one on the charts for 3 weeks here in Kansas City. She awarded me with the original dub of the record for my promotional efforts, followed by an offer to move to Nashville and work in her office. When I returned to Kansas City, I still continued to promote her and her music. I was able to work with TV productions showcasing her by providing archived photos, video, etc to shows like Entertainment Tonight, VH1 and several specials on CMT. I have created and maintain a YouTube channel that is dedicated to her music, her career and archive footage. Check it out by going to YouTube and searching for KANABEL.
